An affiliate is simply a person that recommends a company's product to get paid a commission for the sale/s they make. It works on the word of mouth principle.
Some company's will pay the affiliate further commissions if the person they referred then refers someone else to buy the product. In that case it is called a "2nd Tier."
The 2nd Tier principle is similar to Multi Level Marketing, because the affiliate is paid not only for their direct referals but the indirect referals.
Multi Level Marketing means the affiliate is paid for multiple levels (or tiers) of referrals beyond the ones they referred themselves.
